The setting is Sydney. Kate is married to the scion of an immigrant family grown rich from the construction industry. She brings up two young children, and watches her husband have affairs with other women. Kate runs to an anonymous town and waits for the wounds to heal. Her husband sends a private detective to find her, then storms come and the town is flooded. Kate finds herself undertaking an odyssey away from the town with Gus, a kindly widower.
