Adelaide Charity Books Inc complies with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 Principles in collection and handling of information about its customers, donors, prospective past and current volunteers, contractors, prospective past and current employees, sponsors, and organisations / businesses in specific partnerships.

The purpose of collecting the information is for the purpose of running a street shop and online service selling donated second-hand books.

  • Referees of prospective volunteers / employees / people engaged on an honorarium basis

  • Telephone number/s

  • Date of birth

  • Resumés

  • Bank account / credit or debit card information

  • Information from previous employees or other persons named as referees

Only information relevant to the role of the person with Oxfam Books will be collected, by form completion, telephone conversations, meetings and interviews. Adelaide Charity Books Inc will only collect and record information relevant to the role/activity.

We use your information to:

  • Verify identity

  • Manage our relationship with you

  • Process donations

  • Process reimbursements

  • Advise you about offers and events

  • Respond to your feedback and complaints

  • Manage your purchases from our street or online bookshop

Oxfam Books will disclose some of your information to third parties such as Australia Post and other couriers in their provision of courier services to us, or to other businesses who act as Adelaide Charity Books Inc agents.

As a condition of volunteering/employment, Adelaide Charity Books Inc volunteers/employees are required to respect the confidentiality of information and the privacy of individuals. Adelaide Charity Books Inc takes reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information it collects, uses, retains or discloses is accurate, complete and up to date and is protected from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

People may contact Adelaide Charity Books Inc to:

  • see and ask for correction of their personal information held

  • make a complaint about a breach of privacy

  • submit a complaint or query about this Privacy Policy or handling of information

To see your personal information, you will need to prove your identity.

Complaints relating to Privacy and blocked users:

Privacy complaints will be taken seriously and dealt with promptly and confidentially.
